Join us in person or online for a critical discussion at the upcoming CCPCJ side event: “Closing the Gap: Addressing Wildlife Trafficking of Non-CITES Listed Species”

Despite decades of international efforts, wildlife trafficking continues to threaten biodiversity, economies and local communities. While CITES protects around 40,000 species, millions more that are nationally protected remain outside its scope—and are vulnerable to international trafficking.

This side event will explore the legal loopholes enabling this trade, the impact on source countries and the urgent need for an international legal response. Speakers will discuss potential solutions, including a new protocol under the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC).

Experts from government, enforcement, legal practice and civil society will highlight the path forward to close this regulatory gap and strengthen global wildlife protection.
